2009 Massage Therapy Industry Fact Sheet

Every day people ask us questions about our industry. Some of the most common questions are:

“What kind of education is required to become a massage therapist?”
“What are the health benifits of massage?”
“Does health insurance cover massage?”

There is an article that was recently published by the American Massage Therapy Association that we would like to share with you. The article discusses some of the most common topics and questions we receive in our profession. We would like to ask that you take some time to educate yourself on Massage Therapy and always know that our door, as well as our phone or email is always open to any additional questions or concerns you may have.

Premera Blue Cross prescription update

Please read! Very important for PREMERA insurance members.
Effective May 18, 2009 Premera Blue Cross will require a prescription for all massage therapy claims when services are preformed by a licensed massage therapist.

All Premera members whose prescriptions are not compliant with the terms below will be required to get a new one from your qualified referring Doctor before the May 18th deadline. If you’re not sure please give us a call and we will be happy to help you find out. All prescriptions not in compliance will be denied.

The prescription must include the following information:

Referring providers name
Diagnosis (ICD-9 Code)
Frequency and duration of the massage therapy.
