Benefits of our add-ons

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Ballaura recently added some add-ons to our available services, including hot stones, shea butter back scrub, or seaweed foot wrap detox. Not only are these services very luxurious, but they provide great physical and medical benefits when combined with massage. We would like to highlight and recognize what great healing powers these add-ons provide.

Hot Stones: Our heated basalt stone add-on is a great way to help increase circulation throughout the body, as well as promoting relaxation and the release of toxins. Additionally, these heated stones have been known to help ease pain associated with arthritis.

Shea Butter Sugar Scrub: Shea butter is a natural product made from the extracted fats of crushed seed of the African shea tree.  It is widely used for cosmetic products, namely as a moisturizer. While shea butter has strong moisturizing properties, it also helps to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy, and reduce acne and skin rashes, while gently exfoliating.

Seaweed Wrap: Our Seaweed Foot Wrap Detox is one of our most popular add-ons, and for good reason. Because of the steps of exfoliation, the feet are left soft and smooth. The healing powers don’t stop there. Once the seaweed clay is painted on, the feet are induced into sweating to enhance the detoxifying powers of the seaweed clay to extract the maximum amount of impurities from the body.

Thai Foot Massage

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Thai foot massage came from the Chinese over 5,000 years ago and is still actively used today.  A wooden tool and various hand techniques are used to perform this treatment that is not only done on the feet, but also the lower legs.
Pressure is applied to the reflex points on the toes and bottom of the feet. These points are said to correlate to different organs of the body. When pressure is applied to the reflex points it breaks up any build up on these points. The massage helps to bring balance back to the body. Working the energy lines of the legs also helps to restore energy flow.
The combination of techniques makes Thai foot massage a very popular and powerful healing modality.
Thai Foot Massage is a new service and will be offered by Amy.

Massage: the newest way to quit smoking

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

With every passing year, it seems more and more people are suffering from smoking related illnesses, prompting an urge for people to quit. But quitting is not nearly as easy as it may seem. Quitters typically go through intense stages of withdrawals, casuing nervousness and overwhelming anxiety.
But recent research shows there is a natural way to ease the cravings and anxiety related to quitting smoking. According to MassageTherapy.com, performing self massage can be enough to ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawals, such as the anxiety that usually requires a “fix”.
Some think that doing self-massage, the smoker’s hands are kept busy, thus reducing the need to hold a cigarette or smoke. Either way, it is a safe, all natural and therapeutic method to relieve the stresses of quitting – Just one more way massage has proved itself to the field of medicine.

Tricks To Staying Healthy This Winter

Monday, November 16th, 2009

We have officially entered the season for colds, runny noses, and an overall feeling of being rundown. But you need not worry because here are some great ideas put forth by the Massage Therapy Journal to improve immunity and ward off sickness.

1 Massage

Massage is a great way to relieve stress, which is a large component to the “run down” feeling we sometimes get, and makes it hard for our bodies to remain healthy. Even a couple minutes of self massage can be beneficial and rejuvenating.

2. . Exercise

By working out, you are quickening the process of toxin removal that your body is otherwise doing. Not to mention making sure your heart is in good shape, lowering chances of diseases, and losing excess weight.

Studies have shown that when compared, people who exercise regularly have a much lower rate of illness over those who are sedentary .

3. Get enough sleep

Not reaching your nightly quota for rest has major affects on one’s attitude, and on their levels of stress. Remember how when you’re sick, you sleep more than usual? Well maintaining a good level of sleep can prevent the illness in the first place.

4. Connect with others

Feelings of loneliness and depression are also triggers for becoming sick. Try connecting with others by volunteering, joining a group, or reaching out to a friend.

5.  Be Kind to Yourself

Being angry or sad definitely takes a toll on the body, adding unnecessary stress to one’s life. Instead of dwelling on past events or current problems, take a little “me” time to yourself. Try doing something you enjoy that can help blow off steam or give you some piece of mind.

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

While receiving a traditional massage is always beneficial, mixing up your routine can be fun and exciting. Cupping, an ancient technique, is the perfect answer to a new breed of massage. It uses negative pressure to help blood circulation throughout the skin and muscle, and helps release the toxins from your body. Simple and rejuvenating.
