Favorite Ballaura Ritual

I like to start in the sauna. I let the quietness slow my thoughts down so that I can focus on where my body needs attention. As I sit in the heat, my muscles relax and I tune into my senses. After the sauna, I calmly transition to a long massage. I like 90 min if I have multiple areas that need attention and 120 min for a true full body experience. I like the pace slow so the pressure sinks in deep. I like strokes that combine pressure with movement so the whole chain of muscles can release tension. At the end of my visit, my body is totally relaxed but feels like it has been worked over. A cup of cold water tastes so good. Then I go for a walk to stay loose and transition back to the world outside.

Doug is a good fit if you…

Enjoy a relaxing therapeutic massage or an active therapeutic massage with medium to firm pressure. Doug is very calm, healing, and courteous. Doug works will all ages and offers all services at Ballaura.

Favorite Ballaura Ritual

I choose to get two services a month for my overall physical and mental wellness. I like to ensure that I have no plans or expectations afterwards so that I may take full advantage of the feeling of full body relaxation and relief. As a therapist I know that a 90 minute service will ensure that my areas of focus such as tension in my shoulders or pain in my low back will receive proper attention but also leaves time for feet, hands, and scalp massage, which are my favorite. I prefer no talking during my service. Turning my brain off and letting my body relax is a challenge for me, so soothing music without the expectation of conversation is helpful. I also rely heavily on the benefits of the infrared sauna for recovery as well, using it once to twice a week.

Kelsey is a good fit if you…

Enjoy therapeutic massage with medium-light to deep pressure. She is very grounding, welcoming, and hospitable. Kelsey works well with all ages, body types, and genders and offers all services at Ballaura.

I like to come in on my day off, early in the morning. I bring a water bottle to maintain good hydration before and after service. I show up a bit early and get a nice warm neck wrap to help loosen up. My favorite service is a 60 min massage focusing on just the upper body and feet with medium pressure. Favorite Ballaura Ritual

After an intense working week, I love to have a 45-minute infrared sauna session followed by a 90-minute massage. I start to prepare for the session a day before by relaxing, reading, and listening to music. Three hours before the session, I have a light vegetarian meal, being careful not to be overloaded by food. I prefer a medium temperature sauna, about 113-115 degrees Fahrenheit. At the beginning of the sauna session, I wipe my body with a hot, wet towel and drink a glass of hot tea to speed up the sweating process. I spend no more than 30 minutes in the sauna cabin, lying on a bench with my eyes closed; I relax and meditate; I breathe slowly and deeply and do a few slow movements and stretches for my arms, neck, and shoulders. After the sauna my body’s response to the therapeutic touch is quick and effective. I feel great with my renewed body.

Elena is a good fit if you…

I know how hard it is to make time to relax, so it’s important to me to regularly schedule it in my calendar. That way it’s automatic and I don’t have to think about it. I like having a massage each month, knowing I can always schedule another one if I need to. Before my session, I like to sit quietly in the infrared sauna to loosen my muscles. I know as a massage therapist that this makes a huge difference in how effective my massage is! Afterward, I’ll go for a short walk to further improve my mobility. Then I eagerly await my next monthly session.

Abigail became interested in massage therapy after seeing the positive impact it had on her grandmother while in hospice care. After each session, she saw her grandmother was calm, relaxed, and far more comfortable than before her massage. Abigail realized that people in all different types of situations can benefit from the healing principles of massage, which is now one of her core beliefs. It fits nicely with her main goal in life, which has always been to help others and make people feel good.

Favorite Ballaura Ritual

I start my day with plenty of water, then I like to sit in a relaxation session in the sauna to warm up my muscles and get in the “zone.” After the sauna, I love a 60 or 90 minute medium-pressure massage with minimal talking to work my sore and fatigued muscles. After the session, I make sure to drink plenty of water and try to spend some time in nature to ground myself in preparation to get back to daily life.
